Bio

For as long as he can remember, music has always been a huge part of Chris Erasmus’ life.

Beginning in the comfort of his home in Zimbabwe, Chris found an initial connection to music through watching old movies with his family, and so his musical heroes became the likes of Gene Kelly, Frank Sinatra, Donald O’Connor, Howard Keel, and Debbie Reynolds.

Little did he know just how far his musical intrigue would take him. At 18, he left Africa in pursuit of chasing his dreams and embarked on a journey that would see him build a solid music career. In such time, he has developed into a hugely talented singer, songwriter, and musician, known for his powerful voice and emotive performances within the Americana-Country genre. Chris is also a highly experienced classical musician and well-trained in musical theatre.

Consequently, through his quest for success, Chris became a fully qualified city man, moving between Cape Town, New York, and Australia. However, at his core lies a self-proclaimed “country boy”. As guitars, campfires, riding horses, and working with wild animals splay across memories of his upbringing between Zimbabwe and South Africa, Chris has utilised his latest album to reconnect to his roots, history, and experiences.

Now, based in the ever-inspiring cultural hub of London, Chris is ready for when lightning strikes; never without his notebook or phone to record voice note demos, he’s able to find inspiration in the everyday - whether walking down the street, exploring different locations, or the journeys themselves. He also takes influence from artists such as Foy Vance and Stapleton and has previously worked closely with renowned producer Scott Jacoby of SCOJAC Productions. Home of Eusonia Records, Jacoby has previously worked with esteemed artists Natasha Bedingfield, Jason Mraz, Stormy, Pink, Janelle Monae, and many more.

The ability to tap into different genres and perspectives makes Chris Erasmus a truly unique musician with intriguing stories and insights. His music is inspired by both life’s brutalities and its beauty - challenges and adventures, love and heartbreak, personal downfalls and personal progression. It’s only natural therefore that his music is best suited for travelling, road trips, and evenings filled with meaningful conversations.

Shifting perspectives is a natural part of Chris’ songwriting processes, making his music all the more enticing and relatable. Paired with his additional ‘stream-of-consciousness’ writing technique, Chris crafts his music based on certain emotions or periods of his life to deliver authentic, genuine music. In turn, he hopes he can inspire listeners to find a connection to their own stories, hopes, and dreams.

Chris’ music is for anyone who values authenticity and storytelling within music; his eclectic experience, lifelong dedication, and refined skill make him one to watch out for in the country scene and beyond.
